A chimney is a vertical structure designed to provide safe ventilation for hot flue gases or smoke generated by boilers, stoves, furnaces, or fireplaces, releasing them into the external atmosphere. The internal space through which gases pass is called the flue. By promoting an upward draft, chimneys help draw in fresh air for efficient combustion, a process known as the chimney (or stack) effect.
